Move over, eBay and Craigslist. The next time you need to offload something, you might want to consider listing it for sale on Facebook.
The social network this week started rolling out some new tools to improve the buying and selling experience within Facebook Groups.
Group members can now select the “Sell” option when creating a post. Just add a price and description of the item, include a photo, and provide pickup or delivery instructions. Sellers can also mark posts as Available or Sold and easily view their catalog of previously sold items.
The move comes after Facebook late last year first started testing a way for users to sell items within Groups.
These new features are rolling out to all Facebook “For Sale” Groups in the coming months across iOS, Android, and the Web. Facebook admins who would like to participate now can nominate their Group.
Facebook said many users already use Groups to sell their items, but these new tools should make the process a little easier. One Florida woman, Lisa Duncan-Thayer, for instance, created the Made By Mama group to sell her crochet work and give other local artisans a place to sell their handmade items. The group now has more than 4,500 members, and has “helped many women turn their hobbies into businesses,” Facebook said.
Meanwhile, Rio de Janeiro–based guitarist Kadu Carvalho created a Group to help musicians buy and sell instruments, which has grown to more than 34,000 members in three years.
“Not only has the group enabled Kadu to personally buy, sell, and trade musical instruments, it’s raised his profile and awareness for his band, Swell,” Facebook said.
Facebook said it will continue to introduce news features in the coming months to help people in the For Sale Group community easily connect, browse, and search.
